Marikina is one of Metro Manila's strongest sports towns, and basketball sits at the center of it. The Marikina Sports Center (home of the Marikina Shoemasters in the MPBL) anchors a city league culture that runs down to every barangay, and the courts along the Marikina River Park stay busy year-round. School programs out of Marist School and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina feed the local scene.
